Moringa leaves, commonly known as drumstick leaves, are among the most nutritious green leafy vegetables found in Bangladesh and many other tropical countries. The moringa tree, scientifically known as Moringa oleifera, grows well in warm climates and is widely appreciated for its nutritional value, usefulness in traditional diets, and ability to grow in different environmental conditions. In Bangladesh, the tree is commonly called Sajna, and its leaves, flowers, and long green pods are used in various homemade dishes. Many families grow moringa trees in their yards, beside ponds, along village roads, and around agricultural fields because the tree requires relatively little maintenance once established. The leaves are especially valuable because they contain several vitamins, minerals, plant compounds, and other nutrients that support a balanced diet. Moringa leaves can be cooked with vegetables, mixed with lentils, prepared as a leafy curry, or added to soups and other dishes.
