Bougainvillea is one of the most beautiful, colorful, and popular ornamental flowering plants in Bangladesh. In Bangla, it is commonly known as Baganbilash (বাগানবিলাস). This plant is famous for its bright colors, climbing branches, abundant flowers, and ability to grow in warm, sunny weather.

It can transform a simple home garden, rooftop, balcony, boundary wall, gate, or roadside into a colorful and attractive place. Bougainvillea is particularly suitable for the climate of Bangladesh because it tolerates heat and can survive periods of relatively dry weather once established. It is a woody, thorny, climbing or spreading shrub that belongs to the Nyctaginaceae family. Although people commonly refer to its colorful parts as flowers, the bright pink, purple, red, orange, white, or other colored structures are actually modified leaves called bracts.
