Whales, Minnows, and the Machines That Help — Automation on MELEK

Every account on a chain like this one carries a certain weight. Not a mystery — a number. On MELEK, as on Steem, Hive, and Blurt before it, your influence over the reward pool is proportional to the coin you have staked. When you vote on a post, the strength of that vote scales with your stake. This one fact shapes almost everything here, and it is where the old sea-creature names come from.

Whales, dolphins, and minnows

The community has long named the tiers by size: plankton, minnow, dolphin, orca, whale — each roughly ten times the last. The names are just shorthand for how much your vote moves. A whale's vote can lift a post's payout on its own. A minnow's vote, cast alone, barely registers — and below a small floor (the "dust threshold") a lone vote can count as zero. None of this is unfair or hidden; it is simply what stake-weighted voting means. The point of understanding it is knowing what to do about it.

Why the machines were made

Automation on these chains was not invented to be clever. It was built to solve two very real problems at the two ends of that scale — and it is worth knowing the honest history:

Whales couldn't read everything. A large stakeholder has enormous reach but only two eyes and a day like everyone else's. There was no way to read and fairly weigh all the good work being posted. So the auto-voters, the curation trails, and delegations to guilds were made — ways to send a large stake's attention to quality it would never have found by hand.
Minnows counted for almost nothing alone. One small vote is worth so little it can round to zero. So the guilds and delegation pools were made — ways for many small stakes to gather into a single vote that finally matters, and to share the rewards back to everyone who pooled in.

I will be honest about the rest of that history too: the same tools were sometimes turned to vote-selling and self-voting rings. The tools are neutral. What a community does with them is the thing that matters.

How we do it here

Whale and dolphin reach is infrastructure on MELEK — curation tooling, delegation, trails, and an account HUD that shows you your tier, your voting power, your delegations in and out, and what a vote of yours is worth right now. Not favors whispered in a back room. Legible, in the open.
We run our own minnow support network — yes, a PAL-style guild that gathers many small stakes, aggregates them into real weight, and uses the Karma system to lift quality newcomers by merit (a real contributor with little reach counts for more than the same vote aimed at someone already large). But here is the difference that matters: on the old chains you depended on someone else's network to be seen, and you waited on it. We would rather you not have to. The Witness School teaches anyone to run these systems themselves — become a witness, run your own curation trail or guild, pool delegations, even see how the chain itself is built. The reach a whale has and the aggregation a minnow needs stop being favors you wait for and become things you can learn to run yourself.

You don't only wait on the chain

Here is the part the old platforms never offered, and the reason I keep saying this is more than a place to post. On the old model the deal was: contribute, and wait for the reward pool to pay you. That's real, and it still works here — but on MELEK it is only one stream among many. We would rather teach you to build a living.

Start a company — and give it its own currency. You can mint your own token on MELEK — a community or company coin, with its own rewards and its own curation — and give it a market. Your project can have a currency the way the chain does. We'll teach you how.
Earn from many sources, not one. Posting and curation, running automation, mining the pool, moving with Move, your own token, your own company, your own credentialed work — these stack. You are not a single faucet waiting to drip; you are a person with several streams.
Then invest — don't just cash out. The people who do best here are not the ones who sell the moment they earn. They hold, they reinvest, they put value back to work — and when things are low, that's when they lean in. (Not a promise of gain — a matter of patience and stewardship. Selling into every rise drains the very economy you're part of.)

That's the whole difference. We are not asking you to volunteer and hope. We are handing you the tools to earn, to build something of your own on top of this — and to grow it instead of draining it.

What we're building next — credentials you own, and an identity you keep

There is a piece I want to be honest about, because it is not finished yet. We are building an Academy where the learning you do here becomes a credential you can prove — not a grade on someone else's server, but something verifiable that belongs to you.

The part we care most about is you. Your public self on SoapBox should stay light — a name you choose, an avatar, the work you've done — and nothing more. We do not want a pile of your personal information, and we are not collecting it. But a real credential needs a real name attached to it. So rather than put your name and details out in the open, we are designing a Proof-of-ID chain: your verified identity lives in a proof that you hold, and you reveal it only when you choose — on a credential you hand to someone — never in a public profile. On the chain itself we keep proofs, not your data.

How it would grow: it starts with what you attest yourself, builds into a web of trust where members vouch for one another, and can add a formal verification later for those who want it. Small to strong, and privacy-first the whole way.

None of this credential-and-identity layer is live yet — it is what we are building. I would rather tell you the plan and build it in the open than pretend it is finished. The automation you run on MELEK is the small version of a much larger idea. Soon PRANA — our compute chain — launches, and there the machines don't only curate: they do real work, and get paid for it, on open and fair terms. Automation here is the doorway; PRANA is the room it opens into.

The old chains left the whale's reach and the minnow's aggregation to informal favors and, too often, to abuse. We would rather build them as plain infrastructure, teach how they work, keep the keys in your hands, and lift the newcomer by merit. That is the whole idea.
